Detection Dog Spotlight: Justin and Cigan

When the “shots fired” call came through the radio from mall security dispatch, Enhanced Protection Services handler Justin Stein and his canine partner, Cigan, sprang into action. They immediately responded to the incident scene, working in collaboration with local first responders and on-site security personnel to secure the area and clear shoppers from the mall safely while law enforcement pursued the suspect. The team conducted a follow-up search through the mall, in which Cigan alerted on a trash can, recovering the gun tossed by the shooter following the incident.

Detection Dog Spotlight: Mike and Drago

On a recent patrol sweep of a west coast hospital emergency department, Enhanced Protection Services Canine Handler Michael Garcia noticed an unattended backpack. Immediately, he and his German Shepherd partner, Drago, approached the bag for a search and cleared the suspicious item within seconds. The team is a valuable addition to the hospital’s layered security plan and a proactive response to the rise in violence, particularly active shooter incidents, across our nation’s hospital campuses.
