Detection Dog Spotlight: Miles and Rudy

Enhanced Protection Services Explosive Detection Canine Handler Miles Courtney thinks back to the first day he brought two-year-old black Labrador Rudy home to meet his family. He says that it was his son, Hudson, who gave the thumbs-up on the new addition. “At just three years old, my son took to Rudy right away. They were best buds from the start and that night, fell asleep together in Hudson’s bed,” Miles says with a smile. That first meeting was just four months ago and Miles reports that it was the start of an extremely close partnership.

Active Shooter Incidents: Closing the Opportunity Gap with Firearms Detection Canines

During the first three months of this year, Transportation Security Administration agents intercepted 1,508 firearms in carry-on luggage at airport security checkpoints throughout the country. This is a 10.3% rise over the same time frame in 2022. Of the firearms intercepted, more than 93% were loaded. During the same first quarter of the year, Gun Violence Archive reports 131 active shooter incidents, resulting in the deaths of 195 people. Incidents occurred across 29 states.
