The role of security services is expanding as businesses experience new challenges related to social and political unrest, workplace violence, terrorism, technology and cybercrime. If your current security practices aren’t making an impact, it is time to evaluate your approach.

Security programs are meant to evolve. This is how organizations stay abreast of evolving threats. Use these six steps to develop a quality foundation for your program and aligning your security methodologies with business objectives.

1. Assess your Program – Consider the current state of your security program. Where do you envision it going? Work with your security provider to review strengths and weaknesses.

2. Align with Organizational Culture – Do you know your stakeholders’ expectations? Two way communication is essential. You must develop a partnership and collaboration with all facets of your organization to fully develop safety and security culture.

3. Understand Emerging Threats – Security programs must transform as internal and external environments change. What issues are impacting your city, your industry and even your employees?

4. Use Data and Trending – Tightening budgets require smarter decisions. It is your responsibility to be informed and implement best practices. What data are you receiving? Are you making proactive changes based on these results?

5. Measure Goals vs. Results – Feedback is essential to business growth. How organizations approach that feedback can make a difference in workplace safety and security. Do you have a formal evaluation process?

6. Continual Learning and Development – Investing in security learning and development is essential. A strong leader will have a vision for the future as well as focus for today. What programs do you have in place?

If you haven’t recently made advancements to your security program, your organization is at risk.
